Rosie’s Hemp Sliver

This is high quality hemp fiber. Great for hand spinning. Creamy in feel and white in color. Retted with a special enzyme retting process; then schutched and hackled; combed and formed into this easy to pull form sliver.

Hand spinners will love this fiber. It contains almost no coarse fibers and has a beautiful soft luster. Because of this luster it looks beautiful in natural and also easily dyes rich colors. Standard natural and chemical dye recipes work well with this hemp (use proportions as for silk).

Spinners can add hemp to their wool batts for the texture it provides. It also makes a nice core fiber. When you spin a singles of hemp, it turns into hemp cord (you see at the craft stores).

Hemp Sliver can also be used for other crafts. Teasing the fibers apart to use them in paper making, small amounts can be worked into nuno felt and in general, it can be a handy embellishment for scrapbooks and other handicrafts.
